NITI Aayog Unveils Report on Framing a Comprehensive Policy for Medium Enterprises.

In May 2025, the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) unveiled a report titled "Designing a Policy for Medium Enterprises", launched by Shri Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.


      - The report presents a comprehensive policy framework aimed at transforming medium enterprises into key drivers of India’s economic growth.

      - It emphasizes the vital yet underutilized role of medium enterprises and proposes strategic policy interventions to harness their full potential.

      - The launch event was attended by Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog, and Dr. Arvind Virmani, Member, NITI Aayog.

Main Point :-   (i) The MSME sector contributes around 29% to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), accounts for 40% of exports, and provides employment to over 60% of the workforce.

      (ii) The sector's composition is uneven, with 97% of registered MSMEs being micro enterprises, 7% small enterprises, and only 0.3% medium enterprises.

(iii) Despite their small share, medium enterprises contribute nearly 40% of MSME exports, demonstrating their significant untapped potential as scalable and innovation-driven businesses.
