Karnataka Cabinet Renames Ramanagara District to 'Bengaluru South'.

In May 2025, the Karnataka Cabinet led by Chief Minister (CM) Siddaramaiah approved the renaming of Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South district, while retaining Ramanagara as the headquarters of the renamed district.
- The renamed Bengaluru South district will include the taluks of Ramanagara, Magadi, Kanakapura, Channapatna, and Harohalli.
- Renaming districts falls under the State List (Entry 18: Land; Entry 45: Land Revenue).
Main Point :- (i) Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964: Empowers the state government to alter district boundaries and names.
(ii) No additional financial implications are expected from this renaming decision.
(iii) In 2024, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) did not issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the renaming of Ramanagara.
