- The merger aims to address Konkan Railway’s financial challenges, boost operational efficiency, and accelerate infrastructure development along the strategically vital and scenic rail corridor.
- With Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala already having granted approval, Maharashtra’s decision clears the final hurdle for fully integrating the Konkan Railway into the national railway network.
- The Government of Maharashtra (GoM) approved the merger of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) with Indian Railways with two key conditions: the reimbursement of ₹396.54 crore, representing GOM’s equity contribution made during KRCL’s formation, and the retention of the name ‘Konkan Railway’ post-merger, to preserve its regional identity and operational significance.
