Maharashtra Government Launches 'Mahavistar App' Ahead of Kharif Season.

On May 21, 2025, Chief Minister (CM) of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, launched the ‘Mahavistar Artificial Intelligence (AI) Application’, a significant technological initiative aimed at transforming the agricultural sector ahead of the Kharif season.


      - The launch took place during the Kharif season review meeting organized at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

      - Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate, and other senior officials were also present.

      - Mahavistar is an AI-based application developed by the Agriculture Department of Maharashtra.

Main Point :-   (i) The application features AI integration and a chatbot, providing personalized suggestions on crop selection, sowing methods, usage of fertilizers, water management, and pest control techniques.

      (ii) Farmers will receive timely weather forecasts and agrometeorological instructions to plan their agricultural activities effectively.

(iii) The application is linked with the Seed Authentication, Traceability and Holistic Inventory (SATHI) portal, an initiative launched by the Government of India (GOI), facilitating the traceability of seeds and fertilizers to prevent farmers from using fake (bogus) seeds.
