World Marks International Day to End Obstetric Fistula on May 23, 2025.

Important Days

The United Nations (UN) observes the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula every year on May 23 to raise global awareness about obstetric fistula—a preventable and treatable childbirth-related injury that severely impacts the health and dignity of women and their babies.

      - The theme for 2025 is: "Her Health, Her Right: Shaping a Future Without Fistula", emphasizing the need to empower women with access to quality healthcare and uphold their reproductive rights.

      - The day was established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) through resolution A/RES/67/147, adopted on 20 December 2012.

Main Point :-   (i) The resolution outlined major contributing factors such as poverty, malnutrition, limited healthcare access, early childbirth, child marriage, gender-based violence, and gender inequality, identifying poverty as the greatest risk factor.

(ii) The first observance of this day took place on May 23, 2013.
