MHA Unveils e-Zero FIR Portal to Strengthen Action Against Cyber Financial Crimes.

App and Web Portal

In May 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) launched the electronic-Zero First Information Report (e-Zero FIR) system through its Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) to fast-track responses to cyber financial crimes.

      - Initially rolled out as a pilot project in Delhi, the initiative is set to be extended across other States and Union Territories (UTs) in a phased manner.

      - Automatic FIR registration for cyber financial crime complaints involving losses of ₹10 lakh or more, reported via the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) or Cybercrime Helpline 1930.

      - System integration of the NCRP, Delhi Police’s e-FIR platform, and the National Crime Records Bureau’s (NCRB) Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) to streamline case registration and investigation.

Main Point :-   (i) FIRs are initially filed with Delhi’s e-Crime Police Station, regardless of the complainant’s location, and are then digitally transferred to the concerned territorial Cybercrime Police Station. Complainants must visit the relevant station within 3 days to convert the Zero FIR into a regular FIR.

(ii) The initiative is in line with Sections 173(1) and 1(ii) of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, enabling electronic FIR filing without jurisdictional limitations.

(iii) This move marks a significant step in strengthening India's cybercrime response mechanism.
