Bihar Government Renames Gaya Town to "Gaya Jee" to Reflect Cultural Reverence.

In May 2025, the Bihar cabinet headed by Chief Minister (CM) Nitish Kumar approved a proposal to rename the city 'Gaya' as "Gaya Jee", acknowledging its historic and religious significance.


      - The renaming aims to promote tourism in Gaya by attracting more pilgrims and visitors, thereby strengthening the local economy and creating new opportunities.

      - Gaya town, located on the bank of the Falgu River, was once part of the ancient Magadha Empire.

      - Bodh Gaya, situated in the Gaya district, is the sacred site where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi Tree.

Main Point :-   (i) Gaya is a revered Hindu pilgrimage site, widely known for the Pitrapaksha festival. Each year, millions perform Pind Daan here to honour their ancestors.

      (ii) The city is surrounded by spiritually significant hills such as Mangala-Gauri, Shringa-Sthan, Ram-Shila, and Brahmayoni.
