Adani Defence & Aerospace Partners with Sparton to Indigenise Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Systems.

Economy Business

In May 2025, Ahmedabad-based Adani Defence & Aerospace, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), entered into a binding collaboration agreement with Sparton (DeLeon Springs LLC), a U.S.-based company and subsidiary of Israel's Elbit Systems Ltd.

      - The partnership aims to localise the production of advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) systems, including sonobuoys, for both the Indian Navy and international markets.

      - This strategic collaboration marks Adani Defence & Aerospace as the first private Indian company to offer indigenous sonobuoy solutions, in line with the Government of India's ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ missions.

Main Point :-   (i) The partnership focuses on local assembly and eventual full-scale manufacturing of advanced ASW technologies in India, helping reduce reliance on imports.

(ii) Sonobuoys, critical sonar-based devices used in ASW operations, are instrumental in detecting, tracking, and locating submarines and underwater threats—strengthening India’s Undersea Domain Awareness (UDA).

(iii) The indigenisation of these systems will lessen India’s dependency on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and significantly enhance the protection of key naval assets, including carrier strike groups.
