Former Rajya Sabha MP Nepaldeb Bhattacharjee Passes Away.

Obituary

In May 2025, Nepaldeb Bhattacharjee, a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and former Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), passed away at the age of 74 in Kolkata, West Bengal.


      - Born on 19 December 1950 in Bhatpara, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, Bhattacharjee was a lifelong Marxist and served as the All-India General Secretary of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) from 1979 to 1986.

      - He represented West Bengal as a Rajya Sabha MP from 1981 to 1988. He was also active in the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the trade union wing of CPI(M), and served as the District Secretary for North 24 Parganas in 2015.

     

Main Point :-   (i) Nepaldeb Bhattacharjee contested the 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election from Rajarhat-Gopalpur and the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Dum Dum constituency but was unsuccessful.

      (ii) Besides politics, he was a film enthusiast and directed the Bengali film "Chaka" in 2000, starring Mithun Chakraborty.
