President Droupadi Murmu Confers 58th Jnanpith Award on Gulzar and Jagadguru Rambhadracharya.

On 16 May 2025, President Droupadi Murmu presented the 58th Jnanpith Award to Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Ramabhadracharya during a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. He was honoured for his exceptional contributions to Sanskrit literature.


      - Renowned Urdu poet and lyricist Sampooran Singh Kalra, widely known as Gulzar, was also selected for the award for his work in Urdu literature.

      - However, he could not attend the event in person.

     

Main Point :-   (i) Established in 1965 and conferred by the Bharatiya Jnanpith, the Jnanpith Award is India’s highest literary honour. It is awarded annually for outstanding contributions to literature in English and various Indian languages.

      (ii) The award includes a cash prize of ₹11 lakh, a bronze statue of Goddess Vagdevi (Saraswati), and a citation.
