Ashwini Vaishnaw Inaugurates India’s First 3nm Chip Design Centres in Noida and Bengaluru.

National

In May 2025, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, overseeing the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (Meity), Ministry of Railways (MoR), and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), inaugurated India’s first 3 nanometer (nm) chip design centres of Renesas Electronics India Private Limited, a semiconductor solutions provider, located in Noida (Uttar Pradesh) and Bengaluru (Karnataka).

      - These advanced semiconductor design centres focus on cutting-edge 3nm chip technology, marking a significant step that places India among the global leaders in semiconductor innovation.

      - Previously, India had developed chips at 7nm and 5nm nodes.

      - Renesas aims to develop a complete semiconductor design ecosystem through these facilities, supporting academic institutions and startups via initiatives like Chips to Startup (C25) and the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme.

Main Point :-   (i) Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also announced the launch of a new semiconductor kit designed to enhance practical hardware skills among engineering students.

(ii) He emphasized India’s comprehensive semiconductor strategy, which includes chip design, fabrication, Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP), as well as the supply chains for equipment, chemicals, and gases.
