UP Government Launches 'Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan' to Tackle Child Malnutrition.

Goverment Scheme

In May 2025, the Government of Uttar Pradesh (UP) launched a new nutrition initiative titled ‘Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan’. This targeted campaign is designed to address child malnutrition among children aged 3 to 6 years in 8 aspirational districts of the state.

      - The scheme will be implemented in the districts of Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Chandauli, and Sonebhadra, identified as needing special attention due to high malnutrition rates.

      - This initiative follows the successful implementation of the ‘Sambhav Abhiyan’, further emphasizing the state government's focus on child welfare and nutritional security.

      - The campaign targets 11,13,783 children, providing them with a nutritious morning snack daily. Each serving will include around 400 calories and 15–20 grams of protein through items such as flavored milk, seasonal fruits, and a millet-chikki nutribar.

Main Point :-   (i) These nutritious meals will be distributed under the Take-Home Ration (THR) model via Bal Vikas Sewa Evam Pushtahar Vibhag (Child Development Services and Nutrition Department) centres to ensure consistent and accessible food support.

(ii) The allocated budget for the programme is Rs 254.83 crore, which translates to Rs 44 per child per day.

(iii) To ensure the effectiveness of the campaign, regular health monitoring and assessments will be conducted. These will track the programme’s impact on reducing anaemia, stunting, and underweight cases among the children.
