DFCCIL Unveils India's Longest Rail Flyover Girder at Kalamboli, Maharashtra.

National

In May 2025, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), headquartered in New Delhi, reached a major engineering milestone by successfully deploying India’s longest Rail Flyover (RFO) girder at Kalamboli, Maharashtra.

      - This development took place along the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT)–Nilje stretch of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), a key route under India’s freight modernization strategy.

      - The initiative forms part of DFCCIL’s broader mission to boost the efficiency of goods transportation through dedicated rail corridors.

      - It also highlights one of the nation’s most technically challenging rail infrastructure efforts, blending innovative construction practices with meticulous execution.

Main Point :-   (i) A massive 110.5-metre-long open web steel girder, weighing about 1,500 tonnes, was installed—earning the title of India’s longest rail flyover girder.

(ii) The girder’s installation involved a 34-metre radial launch across operational Indian Railways lines, executed without interrupting train traffic, reflecting cutting-edge engineering prowess and strategic coordination.

(iii) DFCCIL, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways, was formed in 2006 to spearhead the planning, construction, and operation of India's dedicated freight corridors.
