In May 2025, the World Food Prize Foundation, headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, United States of America (USA), announced Brazilian Microbiologist Dr. Mariangela Hungria as the recipient of the 2025 World Food Prize.
- The award recognizes Dr. Hungria’s pioneering work in developing biological alternatives to chemical fertilizers, greatly advancing sustainable agricultural practices in Brazil and globally.
Main Point :- (i) Dr. Hungria will formally receive the award during the World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium scheduled for October 2025 in Des Moines, along with a monetary prize of USD 500,000.
(ii) She is the 10th woman to be honoured with the World Food Prize.
