Union Cabinet Approves HCL-Foxconn Joint Venture to Establish ₹3,706 Crore Semiconductor Plant in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

In May 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a Joint Venture (JV) between Noida (Uttar Pradesh)-based HCL Group and Taiwanese electronics giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (Foxconn) to establish a semiconductor manufacturing unit near Jewar Airport, located within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region in Uttar Pradesh (UP).


      - This project marks the 6th semiconductor unit approved under the Government of India’s ₹76,000 crore India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), and will be the first-ever semiconductor chip unit in Uttar Pradesh under the ISM initiative.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The upcoming semiconductor facility will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹3,706 crore, with approximately ₹1,500 crore to be provided as incentives by the Government of India under its chip manufacturing scheme.

      (ii) The unit is expected to commence production by 2027, and will have the capacity to cater to nearly 40% of India’s domestic semiconductor demand.
