DST Launches First Cluster of CCU Testbeds Under Academia-Industry Collaboration for the Cement Sector.

In May 2025, the Department of Science & Technology (DST), functioning under the Ministry of Science & Technology (MoS&T), launched five Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) testbeds for the cement industry. This marks the first-of-its-kind research and innovation cluster aimed at reducing industrial carbon emissions.


      - The CCU testbeds have been set up across five states — Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh (AP), and Goa, with the pilot facility located in Ballabgarh, Haryana.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) These five CCU testbeds were officially announced by DST during the 27th National Technology Day celebrations, observed on May 11, 2025, at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi (Delhi).

      (ii) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge), Ministry of Science & Technology, attended the event as the Chief Guest and handed over the grants to the respective testbed teams.

(iii) The newly launched CCU testbeds will operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and are intended to promote translational Research & Development (R&D) through collaboration between leading academic institutions and industrial partners.
