In May 2025, Harvansh P. Chawla, a renowned senior corporate legal expert, was appointed as the Chairman of the BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BRICS CCI), headquartered in New Delhi (Delhi). His appointment aims to further strengthen ties among the BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
- This leadership change aligns with the upcoming 17th BRICS Summit, which is scheduled to be held from 6th to 7th July 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Under Chawla’s guidance, BRICS CCI plans to enhance collaboration across key sectors impacting the Global South.
- As Chairman, Chawla will focus on promoting inclusive economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development among BRICS countries. His legal and strategic expertise is expected to play a crucial role in elevating BRICS CCI’s global influence.
- Harvansh P. Chawla is the Founder and Managing Partner of K.R. Chawla & Co. Advocates, a prominent corporate law firm based in New Delhi. His contributions to Indian and international corporate law have earned him a reputation as one of the country's top legal professionals.
Main Point :- (i) Chawla also serves as an Advisor to Trade and Invest British Columbia in India, an initiative supported by the Ministry of Jobs, Trade and Technology, Government of British Columbia, Canada. He was previously selected by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, to draft counter guarantees for infrastructure projects and was among the pioneers in legal work related to port privatization in India.
(ii) He is an active member of several prestigious international organizations, including the International Bar Association (London, UK), the Inter Pacific Bar Association (Tokyo, Japan), and the Indo-US Business Council (Washington, D.C., USA), reflecting his global engagement and legal stature.
(iii) Under his leadership, BRICS CCI has championed multiple initiatives, including boosting intra-BRICS trade to USD 162 billion in 2022–23, advancing green energy partnerships in solar and hydrogen technologies, and promoting digital payment systems and tech startups to reduce reliance on Western financial systems.
