CWRDM's Water Heritage Museum Recognized and Added to the WAMU-NET Global List.

In May 2025, the Water Heritage Museum, operated by the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) in Kozhikode, Kerala, was added to the Global Network of Water Museums (WAMU-NET). This global network is a flagship initiative under the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
- The Water Heritage Museum is the third in India to receive this recognition, following the JAL Water Museum in Udaipur (Rajasthan) and the Living Water Museum in Pune (Maharashtra), marking a significant step in showcasing Kerala's rich water heritage on the international stage.
- The museum showcases Kerala’s indigenous water traditions and practices through a wide range of thoughtfully curated exhibits.
- It also includes a medicinal plant garden, a star garden, and a butterfly garden, adding to its natural and educational charm.
Main Point :- (i) Additionally, the museum features a climate change lab and galleries displaying research achievements of CWRDM, further enhancing its educational value.
(ii) WAMU-NET is an initiative of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP). It recognizes museums and institutions that preserve water-related heritage and contribute to sustainable water management practices.
