GDAI and SEPC Sign MoU to Accelerate Growth of India’s Gaming and Esports Industry.

In May 2025, the Game Developers Association of India (GDAI), headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, and the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC), based in New Delhi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 held in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
- The SEPC operates under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), Government of India.
- This strategic collaboration aims to boost India’s gaming and esports ecosystem by encouraging investment, innovation, global expansion, and technological growth.
Main Point :- (i) The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Game Developers Association of India (GDAI) and the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) focuses on boosting investments in India’s gaming and esports sector. The partnership aims to attract bilateral investments and establish joint ventures to strengthen the gaming ecosystem. This collaborative effort is expected to open new avenues for financial and strategic support within the industry.
(ii) A major objective of the MoU is to expand the global market reach of Indian game developers and companies. By promoting Indian talent and businesses on international platforms, the partnership seeks to increase global recognition and business opportunities. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of skill development by launching initiatives that train professionals, enhance the talent pipeline, and ensure the industry is equipped with a future-ready workforce.
(iii) In addition to investment and talent development, the MoU also encourages technological innovation. It supports advancements in cutting-edge domains such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), the metaverse, gamification, animation, and visual effects (VFX). To further strengthen India’s position in the global market, the agreement includes forming a consortium of Indian companies to boost the export potential of the country's esports and video gaming industry.
