Maharashtra Emerges as the Top State in India for GST Revenue Collection in FY25.

In Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25), Maharashtra recorded the highest Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue among Indian states, collecting ₹3,18,497 crore. The state also led in April 2025 collections with ₹41,645 crore.


      - However, the annual growth rate of GST collections in the state dropped from 13% in April 2024 to 11% in April 2025.

      - Gujarat secured the second position with a total GST collection of ₹1,74,938 crore, followed by Karnataka in third place with ₹1,43,023 crore. These figures reflect the ongoing strength of industrial and economic activity in these states.

     

Main Point :-   (i) India’s total GST revenue collection reached ₹21.36 lakh crore in 2024, marking the highest ever since GST was introduced in 2017. This represents an 8.86% increase over the previous fiscal year.

      (ii) According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), April 2025 alone saw GST collections of ₹2,36,716 crore, reflecting a strong annual growth of 12.6%.

(iii) The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is a constitutional body formed under Article 279-A of the Indian Constitution, introduced by the 101st Constitutional Amendment Act, 2016.
