Pakistan Launches ‘Operation Bunyan al-Marsus’ Targeting India.

International

On May 10, 2025, Pakistan launched ‘Operation Bunyan al-Marsus’, targeting multiple military installations across India, including Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Pathankot (Punjab), and Bhuj (Gujarat). This move was a direct response to India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ conducted earlier on May 7, 2025.

      - The term ‘Bunyan al-Marsus’ originates from the Quran and translates to “a wall constructed of molten lead,” symbolizing unity, resilience, and strength. The name underscores Pakistan's strategic messaging of forming an impenetrable front during the military conflict.

      - The operation was led under the command of General Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan. A major highlight of the offensive was the launch of the Fatah-II hypersonic ballistic missile aimed at New Delhi, which was successfully intercepted by Indian Air Defence Systems in Sirsa, Haryana.

      - India’s prior offensive, Operation Sindoor, had struck three major air base stations in Pakistan: Nur Khan air base (near Chaklala, Rawalpindi), Murid airbase (Chakwal), and Rafiqui airbase (Shorkot, Punjab province). These pre-emptive strikes prompted Pakistan’s counter-operation.

Main Point :-   (i) On May 10, 2025, both countries mutually agreed to an immediate ceasefire, effectively halting what was regarded as one of the most intense military escalations between India and Pakistan in recent decades. The ceasefire marked a critical moment of de-escalation between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

(ii) Following the ceasefire, on May 11, 2025, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), addressed the media. He detailed the planning, execution, and outcome of Operation Bunyan al-Marsus, marking its official conclusion.

(iii) The Fatah-II is a guided Multi-Launch Rocket System (MLRS) developed by Pakistan with a strike range of 450 km, succeeding Fatah-I which has a range of 140 km. In 2024, Pakistan tested Fatah-II, boasting precision-strike capabilities with a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of under 10 meters, highlighting its technological advancement in missile warfare.
