India Observes National Maritime Day on 5 April 2025.

India observed the 62nd edition of National Maritime Day (NMD) on 5th April 2025, recognizing the vital role of the maritime sector in driving the nation's economy, supporting international trade, and strengthening global relations. The observance commemorates the historic voyage of SS Loyalty, India’s first Swadeshi ship operated by Scindia Steam Navigation Company Limited, which sailed from Mumbai to London (United Kingdom) on April 5, 1919.


      - National Maritime Day was initiated by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India.

      - The first National Maritime Day was observed on 5th April 1964.

      - Coinciding with NMD, Merchant Navy Week 2025 (also known as National Maritime Week) is celebrated from March 30 to April 5, 2025.

Main Point :-   The theme for 2025 is: “Samriddh Sagar - Viksit Bharat Evam Neel Arth Aur Harit Vikas Ke Liye Yuva”, which translates to “Prosperous Seas – Developed India and Youth for Blue Economy & Green Growth.”
