West Bengal Gains GI Recognition for 7 New Products, Bringing Total to 39.

In April 2025, the Geographical Indication (GI) Registry based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN), under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag to seven more products from West Bengal (WB), including 'Nolen Gurer Sandesh', Baruipur Guavas, and Kamarpukur's White Bonde.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - With these additions, West Bengal now has a total of 39 GI-tagged products. This move is expected to enhance the identity and market value of these local products.
  • - Several organizations played a key role in securing the GI tags for these products. Misti Udyog, a renowned group of sweet makers in WB, applied for the Traditional Sweets GI tag, Baruipur Farmers Producer Company Limited applied for the Baruipur Guavas tag, and the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute in WB applied for the Radhunipagal Rice tag.
