Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) becomes the first listed depository to register more than 10 crore demat accounts

Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) on November 22 announced that the number of active demat accounts on its platform has crossed the 10 crore mark. National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) and CDSL are the only two depositories operating in India. NSDL competes with CDSL on parameters such as number of registered depository participants, number of instruments processed and set of innovative products introduced in the market. Meanwhile, the number of companies holding their securities in demat form on NSDL in FY23 stood at 40,987, while there were 20,323 companies on CDSL. CDSL's revenue in FY23 was ₹620.94 crore, while its net profit was ₹275.96 crore more than NSDL during FY23. In FY23, the demat custody value for NSDL was ₹302.19 lakh crore, while that for CDSL was ₹39.71 lakh crore. ​
