International Firefighters' Day Observed on 4 May 2025.

Important Days

International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) is observed annually on May 4 across the globe to honour the bravery and dedication of firefighters who risk their lives to protect communities and the environment. The day also pays tribute to firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty, while expressing gratitude to both current and retired firefighters for their service.

      - A symbolic red-and-blue ribbon, joined at the top, is used to commemorate IFFD—red representing fire and blue representing water, the two main elements associated with firefighting.

      - IFFD was established to honour five firefighters who tragically lost their lives while combating a wildfire in Linton, Australia, in 1998.

Main Point :-   (i) On January 4, 1999, JJ Edmondson, a volunteer Lieutenant and firefighter from Australia, proposed the observance of IFFD to recognize the efforts and sacrifices of firefighters, suggesting May 4 as the official date.
