In April 2025, Jair da Costa, former striker of Brazil's national football team and a member of the 1962 FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) World Cup-winning squad, passed away at the age of 84 in Osasco, near São Paulo, Brazil. He was born on July 9, 1940, in Santo André, São Paulo.


      - Jair da Costa began his professional football career in 1960 with Portuguesa, a Brazilian football club based in São Paulo.

      - In 1962, he joined Inter Milan (Italy), where he became an integral part of the legendary "Grande Inter" team under coach Helenio Herrera. He was instrumental in Inter’s European success, including scoring the winning goal in the 1965 European Cup final against Benfica.

     

Main Point :-   (i) During his time with Inter, Jair da Costa won four Serie A titles, two European Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups, solidifying his legacy as one of the top Brazilian exports to European football.

      (ii) He returned to Brazil to play for Santos FC, where he joined forces with football icon Pelé. Together, they led Santos to victory in the 1973 Campeonato Paulista (São Paulo State Championship).

(iii) Jair da Costa concluded his football career in 1976 with Canada's Windsor Star, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in both Brazilian and international football.
