Hubballi Airport Earns Platinum Status in ACI GAR 2025, Among Three Indian Airports Honored.

In April 2025, Hong Kong (China)-based Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) announced the winners of the ninth Green Airports Recognition (GAR) 2025 during its Regional Assembly held in New Delhi (Delhi).


      - In the Green Category, three Indian airports operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) were recognized under GAR 2025 — Hubballi Airport (HBX) (Hubballi, Karnataka), Kempegowda International Airport or Bengaluru International Airport Limited (KIA/BLR) (Bengaluru, Karnataka), and Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) (Kochi, Kerala).

      - In the ACI Safety category, Kempegowda International Airport received the Gold Award, and a total of 12 airports across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East were awarded Platinum, Gold, and Silver awards under the Green Airports Recognition (GAR) 2025 initiative.

      - This edition, themed "Sustainable Energy at Airports," received a record 39 submissions, reflecting the aviation sector's strong commitment to reducing environmental impact through innovative and sustainable energy solutions.

Main Point :-   (i) Hubballi Airport was honoured for implementing an 8 megawatt (MW) solar power plant within its premises, showcasing its commitment to sustainable energy usage.

      (ii) Kempegowda International Airport received Silver recognition in the 15–38 million passengers per year category for its project titled "Sustainable Energy for a Greener Perpetuity."

(iii) Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) also received Silver recognition for setting up a 12 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power plant.
