In THE Asia University Rankings 2025 IISc Tops Among Indian Institutes and China’s Tsinghua University Leads Overall.

In April 2025, London, United Kingdom (UK)-based Times Higher Education (THE) released its 13th edition of the Asia University Rankings. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, Karnataka, topped among all the Indian institutes featured on the list. IISc secured the 38th rank with an overall score of 65.2, a drop from its 32nd position in the 2024 list.


      - Overall, China retained its dominance by securing the top two spots, with Tsinghua University ranking 1st (score 92.5) and Peking University ranking 2nd (score 92).

      - They were followed by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) from Singapore, ranked 3rd and 4th respectively.

     

Main Point :-   (i) This latest edition ranked 853 universities from 35 countries/territories, up from 739 universities in 2024, evaluating their research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

      (ii) Among India's top 10 universities, only two Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) — IIT-Indore (Madhya Pradesh), ranked 131st, and IIT-Guwahati (Assam), ranked 184th — featured on the list.

(iii) Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences, with an overall score of 48.1, ranked 146th (up from 150th in 2024), and emerged as the highest-ranked private university in India for the second consecutive year.
