In April 2025, Union Minister Amit Shah, who heads both the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of Cooperation (MoC), recently addressed the State Level Cooperative Conference in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh (MP). The event was held under the theme of ‘2025 - International Cooperative Year’ to highlight the growing significance of cooperative societies in India.
- The conference was graced by key dignitaries, including Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister (CM) of MP, Vishwas Sarang, State Cooperation Minister, and Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation.
- Union Minister Amit Shah highlighted the Government of India’s strong commitment to modernizing the cooperative sector during the State Level Cooperative Conference held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He announced that the Centre has allocated Rs 2,500 crore for the digitization of all Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), with Madhya Pradesh emerging as the leading state in its implementation. This move aims to streamline operations and enhance transparency across the cooperative network.
- Additionally, to make these systems more accessible and inclusive, PACS now operate in 13 regional languages. Further strengthening the sector, a merger of dairy, fishery, and credit cooperatives has been undertaken to form Multipurpose PACS (MPACS), which are expected to significantly improve operational efficiency and expand the services provided to rural communities.
Main Point :- (i) A strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during the event between the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) (based in Gujarat) and the Madhya Pradesh Cooperative Dairy Federation (MPCDF). This MoU aims to expand the role of cooperative dairy societies in improving milk production across MP.
(ii) Madhya Pradesh currently produces around 5.5 crore liters of milk daily, contributing about 9% of India’s total milk output, but less than 1% of this is processed through cooperative dairies.
