World Voice Day (WVD) is observed annually on April 16 to celebrate the importance of the human voice in communication, identity, and culture. It highlights the role of the voice in both personal and professional spheres, as well as its power in artistic expression.
- The theme for World Voice Day 2025 is "Empower Your Voice," which emphasizes the importance of vocal health and encourages individuals to care for and nurture their voices. The campaign also seeks to raise awareness about the significance of voice-related disorders.
- The Voice Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) selected the theme for 2025. The organization plays a pivotal role in promoting WVD globally by advocating for vocal health and related medical research.
- The origins of WVD trace back to Brazil on April 16, 1999, when the Brazilian Society of Laryngology and Voice (SBLV) initiated the event under the leadership of Dr. Nedio Steffen. It was initially celebrated as Brazilian Voice Day.
Main Point :- (i) The Brazilian observance of Voice Day inspired other countries such as Argentina and Portugal to hold similar events. This growing recognition of voice health laid the foundation for WVD’s international expansion.
(ii) In 2002, the AAO-HNS officially recognized April 16 as World Voice Day and began promoting it worldwide. This move transformed a national initiative into a globally acknowledged day dedicated to vocal health.
(iii) World Voice Day serves as a global platform to educate the public about voice care, encourage research in voice sciences and speech therapy, support artistic expression, and raise awareness for individuals dealing with voice-related disorders like spasmodic dysphonia.
