World Chagas Disease Day (WCDD) is observed globally every year on April 14 to raise awareness about Chagas disease, also known as American trypanosomiasis. This Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) is caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi (T. cruzi). Background:


      - The observance promotes the importance of early diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and equitable healthcare access for affected individuals.

      - The theme for WCDD 2025 is "Prevent, Control, Care: Everyone's Role in Chagas Disease", underscoring the shared responsibility of governments, healthcare providers, and communities in preventing and managing the disease.

     

Main Point :-   (i) In May 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO), during the 72nd World Health Assembly (WHA), officially designated April 14 as World Chagas Disease Day.

      (ii) The first-ever observance of WCDD took place on April 14, 2020.
