Katy Perry Blasts Off into Space Aboard Blue Origin Rocket with All-Female Crew.
Science and Technology
In April 2025, American pop icon Katy Perry, along with five other women, was recently launched into space aboard a Blue Origin rocket, marking a historic moment in space travel. The mission, conducted using the New Shepard rocket, took off from Blue Origin’s launch site in West Texas, United States of America (USA), and successfully returned to Earth.
- This was recently the first all-women spaceflight in over six decades, the last being Valentina Tereshkova’s solo orbital mission in 1963. The all-female crew included a diverse group of women with notable accomplishments in various fields.
- Joining Katy Perry on this milestone journey were Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos; CBS television host Gayle King; former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe; civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen; and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
Main Point :- (i) The launch, designated Blue Origin NS-31, marked Blue Origin’s 11th human spaceflight and made history as the first all-female spaceflight since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963. Tereshkova, the Soviet cosmonaut, had orbited Earth alone for nearly three days, becoming the first woman in space.
(ii) During this recently conducted mission, the six-member female crew flew for about 11 minutes, crossing the Kármán line — the internationally recognized boundary of space set at 100 km (62 miles) above Earth. The passengers experienced moments of weightlessness before safely descending back.
(iii) The New Shepard spacecraft operated fully autonomously, requiring no pilot input during the mission. Both the capsule and the rocket booster made soft landings using parachutes, with the booster successfully touching down in Texas.
