President Droupadi Murmu Concluded a Four-Day State Visit to Portugal and Slovakia to Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Sign Key Agreements.

President of India, Droupadi Murmu, undertook a four-day state visit to Portugal and Slovakia from April 7 to 10, 2025, with the aim of strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing diplomatic cooperation with both nations.


      - The first leg of the visit was to Portugal from April 7–8, 2025, at the invitation of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Portugal. The visit marked the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Portugal, reinforcing their dynamic and multifaceted partnership.

      - During her visit to Portugal, President Murmu held meetings with the Portuguese delegation and the Cabinet of the President of Assembleia Da Republica, where she discussed key bilateral and global issues. She also signed the Book of Honour as a mark of respect.

      - President Murmu was honoured with the ‘City Key of Honour’ of Lisbon City by Carlos Moedas, the Mayor of Lisbon. This recognition made her an honorary citizen of Lisbon, highlighting the growing goodwill between the two nations.

Main Point :-   (i) As part of the diplomatic celebrations, the Presidents of India and Portugal jointly launched commemorative postage stamps to mark 50 years of diplomatic ties, symbolizing the historical and cultural friendship between both nations.

      (ii) In the second leg, from April 9–10, 2025, President Murmu visited Slovakia at the invitation of Peter Pellegrini, the President of Slovakia. The visit underlined India’s commitment to deepening its strategic and economic engagements with the Slovak Republic.

(iii) During the Slovakia visit, President Murmu was presented with a Slovak translation of the ancient Indian texts—the Upanishads by the Slovak President. She also received an Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa, Dr. h. c.) from Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, and two MoUs were signed between India and Slovakia to foster cooperation in key sectors of mutual interest.
