In April 2025, the Ministry of Education (MoE) Announced a 9.5% Hike in Material Costs Under PM POSHAN Scheme, Effective from May 1, 2025.The Ministry of Education (MoE) recently announced a 9.5% increase in the material cost under the centrally sponsored Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) scheme, previously known as the Midday Meal Scheme.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - The revision is based on inflation trends, as per the Consumer Price Index for Rural Labourers (CPI-RL), compiled by the Labour Bureau under the Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoL&E).
  • - For the Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26), the Union Government has allocated an overall budget of ₹12,500 crore for the PM POSHAN scheme. To implement the revised cooking cost, an additional ₹954 crore will be borne by the Union Government.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The material cost per student under the PM POSHAN scheme has been revised, effective from May 1, 2025. For Kindergarten and Primary Classes (Grades 1 to 5), the cost has increased from ₹6.19 to ₹6.78 per student per day.
  • (ii) For Upper Primary Classes (Grades 6 to 8), the material cost has been raised from ₹9.29 to ₹10.17 per student per day.
