GRSE and SDHI Ink MoU to Strengthen Indigenous Commercial Shipbuilding Efforts.

In April 2025, Kolkata (West Bengal)-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gujarat-based Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) to boost collaboration in commercial shipbuilding and offshore infrastructure, thereby advancing India's maritime self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.


      - The MoU is designed to develop a robust and scalable commercial shipbuilding model by harnessing the core competencies of GRSE and SDHI in design, infrastructure, and project execution to serve both domestic and international markets for ships and offshore assets.

      - The partnership enables both entities to share infrastructure and jointly develop standardised vessel platforms, aimed at improving project timelines and ensuring cost-effectiveness.

      - The agreement encompasses collaboration in vessel trials, commissioning processes, and comprehensive ship repair services.

Main Point :-   (i) GRSE and SDHI will adopt integrated project management approaches and co-create solutions to minimise operational hurdles.

      (ii) A strong emphasis will be placed on establishing a mutually advantageous vendor and supply chain framework, with joint procurement and sourcing strategies.

(iii) The agreement includes training initiatives to cultivate skilled manpower, supporting long-term growth of the shipbuilding sector.
