Supreme Courts of India and Nepal Sign MoU to Strengthen Judicial Cooperation.

MOUs and Agreement

In April 2025, the Supreme Court (SC) of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Supreme Court of Nepal to enhance judicial cooperation between the two countries. The agreement was formalized in New Delhi, India.


      - The MoU is aimed at fostering structured interactions, exchange visits, training programs, and academic collaborations between judges and judicial officers of both nations, paving the way for stronger legal ties and improved judicial capabilities.

      - The event was attended by CJI Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Nepal’s CJI Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, MoS Arjun Ram Meghwal, Attorney General R. Venkataramani, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, and other senior legal officials.

     

Main Point :-   (i) A dedicated group will be formed with officials from both the Indian and Nepali judiciaries. This group will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing collaborative activities to strengthen judicial cooperation between the two nations. The focus will be on creating structured and goal-oriented partnerships.

      (ii) Both countries will adopt digital innovations to streamline judicial processes and improve services. Capacity building will include training, seminars, research, and cross-border visits to enhance judicial knowledge and efficiency.

(iii) The agreement encourages the mutual sharing of information on recent legal trends, judicial reforms, and procedural updates. This exchange of knowledge is intended to promote continuous learning, modernization of judicial practices, and a deeper understanding of each country's legal frameworks.
