The International Romani Day is observed annually across the globe on April 8 to celebrate Romani culture and raise awareness about the social, political, and economic challenges faced by the Roma community, which is considered Europe’s largest ethnic minority.


      - International Romani Day commemorates the 1st World Romani Congress held on April 8, 1971, in Orpington, Kent, London, United Kingdom (UK).

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) It was organized by the UK-based Gypsy Council and the Rome (Italy)-based Comité International Rom (CIR), marking the first global attempt at Romani cooperation.

      (ii) The official recognition of International Romani Day occurred on April 8 during the 4th World Romani Congress held in 1990 in Serock, Poland.
