The International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda is observed globally on April 7 each year to honor the memory of over 1 million victims who lost their lives during the 100-day mass killings in Rwanda.


      - The day also acknowledges the suffering of moderate Hutus and others who stood against the genocide.

      - April 7, 2025, marked the 31st anniversary of this tragic event, focusing on remembrance, education, and global efforts to prevent future atrocities and promote unity, tolerance, and peace.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/58/234 on 23rd December 2003, officially designating April 7 as the International Day of Reflection on the Genocide in Rwanda.

      (ii) The first observance took place on April 7, 2004, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the genocide.
