The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) is observed annually on April 6 across the globe to recognize the power of sport in promoting peace, encouraging social inclusion, and contributing to sustainable economic growth.
- The 2025 celebration marks the 12th anniversary of the IDSDP observance.
- The theme for IDSDP 2025 is "Leveling the Playing Field: Sport for Social Inclusion".
Main Point :- (i) The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) officially proclaimed April 6 as IDSDP through Resolution A/RES/67/296 on August 23, 2013.
(ii) The first-ever observance of IDSDP took place on April 6, 2014.
(iii) The date commemorates the opening of the first modern Olympic Games, which were held in Athens, Greece, from April 6 to 15, 1896.
