International Day for Mine Awareness & Mine Action Assistance 2025 Observed on April 4.

The United Nations (UN)’s International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action is observed annually on April 4 to raise awareness about the threats posed by landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW), and to promote efforts toward their elimination.


      - The day also supports the development of national mine-action capacities in conflict-affected regions, in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

      - April 4, 2025, marks the 20th observance of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.

      - The theme for 2025 is "Safe Futures Start Here", highlighting the importance of mine clearance in building safer, more secure communities.

Main Point :-   (i) On December 8, 2005, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/60/97, officially designating April 4 as the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.

      (ii) The first-ever observance of this day took place on April 4, 2006.
