Defence

In April 2025, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has recently granted in-principle approval for civil aircraft operations at the Adilabad airfield in Telangana. Originally established during the Nizam era, this airfield is set to be developed into a joint-use facility catering to both military and civilian purposes.

      - This approval marks the second airport sanctioned by the Government of India (GoI) since 2023, aiming to boost regional air connectivity and support defence training needs.

      - The Indian Air Force (IAF) intends to set up a training establishment at the Adilabad airfield in the future.

Main Point :-   (i) The IAF has proposed that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) acquire adjacent land for the construction of a civil terminal, aircraft parking apron, and associated infrastructure.

(ii) The AAI is likely required to submit a detailed proposal to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the IAF for the civil development plans.

(iii) In February 2025, the GoI had granted approval for the development and operationalization of the Mamnoor Airport in Warangal, Telangana.
