India & Nepal Recently Sign MoUs for 10 HICDPs in Nepal Under NRs. 625 Million Grant.

On April 1, 2025, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu (Nepal), in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Government of Nepal, and other Project Implementing Agencies, recently signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for undertaking 10 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal.


      - These projects, supported under the grant assistance of the Government of India (GoI), focus on Education, Health, and Culture sectors, with a total estimated cost of Nepalese Rupees (NRs) 625 million.

      - This initiative is part of India's ongoing commitment to enhancing infrastructure and community development in Nepal at the grassroots level.

      - New schools will be built in Taplejung (Koshi), Gulmi & Rupandehi (Lumbini), and Kailali & Bajhang (Sudurpashchim). These projects aim to improve educational infrastructure, ensuring better learning opportunities for students in remote regions and enhancing access to quality education across Nepal.

Main Point :-   (i) Health posts will be established in Sindhupalchowk (Bagmati), and the Nepal-Bharat Maitri Hospital will be built in Humla (Karnali) to enhance medical accessibility in rural areas. Cultural projects include the Ngagyur Nyngma Palyul Dhongag Chholing Monastery (Solukhumbu, Koshi) and the Nepal-Bharat Maitri E-Library (Chitwan, Bagmati), promoting heritage and education.

      (ii) The projects will be implemented through Nepalese local authorities, including Metropolitan Cities, Sub-Metropolitan Cities, Municipalities, and Rural Municipalities. This ensures efficient administration, smooth execution, and direct community benefits while strengthening India-Nepal bilateral cooperation.

(iii) Since 2003, India has supported 573 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal, completing 495. These initiatives span education, healthcare, roads, irrigation, and electrification, contributing to grassroots infrastructure development across all seven provinces and improving the quality of life for local communities.
