In March 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi announced 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' as the theme for the 2025 International Day of Yoga (IDY).
- The first-ever IDY was observed on June 21, 2015, to raise awareness about the benefits of practicing Yoga, a 5,000-year-old ancient practice that originated in India.
- The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), under the Ministry of Ayush, has been tasked with organizing large-scale celebrations for International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025.
- As part of the preparations, MDNIY launched a 100-day countdown to IDY 2025 during the Yogamahotsav event at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on March 13, 2025.
Main Point :- (i) The 11th edition of IDY will be the most expansive and inclusive yet, featuring 10 unique signature events to promote Yoga worldwide. Yoga Sangama will see a synchronized Yoga demonstration at 10,000 locations, aiming for a world record, while Yoga Bandhan will foster global partnerships by hosting Yoga sessions at iconic landmarks in 10 countries. Yoga Parks will establish 1,000 dedicated Yoga spaces for long-term community engagement.
(ii) Inclusive initiatives include Yoga Samavesh for Divyangjan, seniors, children, and marginalized groups, Yoga Prabhava to assess Yoga’s public health impact, Yoga Connect as a global summit with experts, and Harit Yoga promoting sustainability through tree planting and clean-ups.
(iii) To attract youth, Yoga Unplugged will feature engaging sessions tailored for young people. Yoga Maha Kumbh, a week-long festival across 10 locations, will culminate in a central celebration led by the Prime Minister. Lastly, Samyogam, a 100-day initiative, will integrate Yoga with modern healthcare practices to promote holistic wellness.
