International Day of Zero Waste Observed on March 30.

The United Nations (UN)'s International Day of Zero Waste, also known as Zero Waste Day, is observed annually on March 30 to highlight the importance of strengthening global waste management and promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns to tackle the waste pollution crisis.


      - March 30, 2025, marked the 3rd observance of the International Day of Zero Waste.

      - In 2025, for the first time, the day was observed under the theme "Towards Zero Waste in Fashion and Textiles."

      - The observance is jointly facilitated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the leading global authority in the UN system, and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

Main Point :-   (i) On December 14, 2022, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/77/161, titled "Promoting zero waste initiatives to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," proclaiming March 30 as the International Day of Zero Waste.

      (ii) The first-ever International Day of Zero Waste was observed on March 30, 2023.
