National Technical Textiles Mission Celebrates 5 Years of Advancing Innovation and Growth in India.

The National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Textiles (MoT), launched in 2020 to promote technical textiles in India, has successfully completed 5 years of implementation. The mission focuses on key areas including: research, market expansion, exports, and skill development.


      - It aims to foster innovation, support startups, and promote the use of technical textiles in sectors like agriculture, infrastructure, and healthcare.

      - The Mission Directorate, led by Mission Director Ashoka Malhotra, has been responsible for the execution, coordination, and monitoring of activities under NTTM.

     

Main Point :-   (i) In February 2020, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the NTTM with a financial outlay of Rs 1,480 crore for the period from 2020-21 to 2025-26.

      (ii) The mission’s objective is to establish India as a global leader in the Technical Textiles sector. A total of 168 research projects worth Rs 509 crore have been approved under the NTTM.

(iii) Since its inception in 2020, the Government of India (GOI) has allocated Rs 517 crore for the NTTM. As of now, Rs 393.39 crore has been utilized for various activities under the mission.
