In March 2025, Rana Dasgupta, a renowned British author of Indian origin, was named the winner of the 2025 Windham-Campbell Prize in the 'Non-Fiction' category by the United States of America (USA)-based Yale University.
- He received this award in recognition of his insightful critique of global hypercapitalism, industrialization, politics, and class, as demonstrated in his book Capital: A Portrait of Twenty-First Century Delhi, which was shortlisted for both the Orwell Prize and the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize.
- This year, a total of eight authors, including Rana Dasgupta, have been selected as winners of the 2025 Windham-Campbell Prizes in recognition of their literary contributions. Each recipient will receive a citation, an award, and a monetary prize of USD 175,000 to support their literary work.
- The winners span across four categories. In fiction, Sigrid Nunez (USA) and Anne Enright (Ireland) were honored, while in non-fiction, Patricia J. Williams (USA) joined Rana Dasgupta as a recipient. The drama category recognized Roy Williams (UK) and Matilda Feyisayo Ibini (UK), whereas in poetry, Anthony V. Capildeo (Scotland/Trinidad and Tobago) and Tongo Eisen-Martin (USA) received the prize.
Main Point :- (i) The Windham-Campbell Prizes were established in 2013 by writer Donald Windham in memory of his longtime partner, Sandy Campbell. These awards aim to support authors writing in the English language from anywhere in the world, across the four main categories of fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry.
