MoL&E Collaborates with ILO to Launch Phase-01 of India's Social Protection Data Pooling Exercise.

In March 2025, the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E) launched Phase-01 of India's Social Protection Data Pooling Exercise. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), based in Geneva, Switzerland, along with various state governments.


      - The objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of social protection coverage across India.

      - The exercise strengthens India’s position in negotiating trade and social security agreements with other nations while reinforcing its commitment to promoting decent work in global value chains.

     

Main Point :-   (i) For Phase-01, the Ministry has identified ten states for data consolidation at the central level. These states are Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Gujarat.

      (ii) As per ILO’s World Social Protection Report (WSPR) 2024-26, social protection coverage in India has significantly increased from 24.4% in 2021 to 48.8% in 2024.
