The United Nations (UN) observes the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade annually on 25 March to honor the millions who endured suffering under the transatlantic slave trade, recognized as one of the gravest human rights violations in history.


      - The theme for the 2025 observance is "Acknowledge the past. Repair the present. Build a future of dignity and justice."

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) On December 17, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/62/122, officially designating 25 March as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

      (ii) The first observance of this day took place on 25 March 2008.
