Shaheed Diwas (Martyrs' Day) is observed annually across India on 23rd March to commemorate the martyrdom of three iconic revolutionaries: Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, who were executed by the British government in 1931 for their pivotal role in India's freedom struggle. The day serves as a tribute to their courage, patriotism, and sacrifice, symbolizing the spirit of resistance against injustice.


      - The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), organizes nationwide events on Shaheed Diwas to educate youth about their legacy.

      - Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, all members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), were dedicated to India's fight for freedom.

      - They were arrested for their role in the Lahore Conspiracy Case, which involved the assassination of British police officer John Saunders in 1928.

Main Point :-   (i) On 23rd March 1931, the British government executed them by hanging at Lahore Central Jail (now located in Pakistan). Their martyrdom became a significant turning point in India's freedom movement, inspiring countless others to join the fight for independence.

      (ii) Other notable Martyrs' Days observed in India include 30th January, marking the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, 19th May for the Bengali Language Movement, 17th November for Lala Lajpat Rai’s martyrdom, and 19th November, celebrating the birth anniversary of Rani Lakshmibai.

(iii) These observances honor the sacrifices of India's great freedom fighters and reinforce the country's commitment to remembering its rich history of struggle and resilience.
