Tunisian President Kais Saied Appoints Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri as New Prime Minister.

On March 21, 2025, Tunisian President Kais Saied dismissed Prime Minister Kamel Madouri and appointed Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri as the new head of government. This marks the fourth change in the prime ministerial position since President Kais Saied took office in July 2021.


      - Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri becomes the second woman to hold the position of Prime Minister in Tunisia's history, following Najla Bouden, who served from October 2021 to August 2023.

      - Before being appointed as Prime Minister, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri served as the Minister of Public Works and Housing, a position that helped shape her leadership experience.

      - Sarra Zenzri's political career spans over 30 years in public administration. She began her career in 1989 as an engineer in the Ministry of Equipment, Housing, and Infrastructure, specifically in the Bridges and Roads Department.

Main Point :-   (i) Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri’s political career in the cabinet began in 2018 when she was appointed Minister of Public Works and Housing. She later served as the Minister of Equipment and Housing from 2021 to 2024, overseeing crucial infrastructure projects.

      (ii) In addition to her previous roles, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri served as the Interim Minister of Transport from March 12 to August 25, 2024, further expanding her experience in managing critical sectors.

(iii) Tunisia is currently grappling with significant economic challenges. The country’s Debt-to-Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio is approximately 80% in 2024, with a growth rate of just 0.4% and an unemployment rate of 16%.
